Italy, Austria and Germany signed a joint declaration of intent (JDOI)

The German, Austrian and Italian ministries responsible for energy today signed a joint declaration of intent in the presence of EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, with the intention of further intensifying cooperation on the creation of a hydrogen corridor.

In their various statements at the signing ceremony, they emphasised the importance of the corridor for energy security, particularly in sectors that are difficult to decarbonise, the creation of a European hydrogen market and the supply of the southern German region. They also emphasised the potential for strengthening links between member states and partners in North Africa.

‘The trilateral partnership aims at improving the level of energy security for the most important industrial demand clusters of the participating countries and at the same time at fostering the implementation of climate targets in the European Union. A trilateral working group was created to this end. It is to bring together the relevant stakeholders, including transmission system operators, national regulatory authorities, financial authorities and potential buyers and producers of hydrogen (BMWK, 30.05.2024).
